About Leandra

A lifelong love of music, passed gently to the next generation.

Leandra Straka has spent ten years teaching young musicians across Round Rock, Austin, and the surrounding communities — both privately and at local music studios. Her instruction draws on a deep foundation as a performing violinist and violist, with years spent playing in university and community orchestras alongside her teaching work.

Lessons are grounded in two pedagogical traditions: the Suzuki method, for the patient ear-first approach that suits young beginners, and the Essential Elements method used in most local school orchestras — so private lessons reinforce, rather than diverge from, what students are doing in their school programs. Beginners are welcomed warmly. Older students preparing for UIL solo and ensemble, all-region auditions, or competitions receive coaching tailored to exactly what they're facing.

Lessons Offered

Three instruments, one studio

Violin, viola, and piano lessons are offered for students from preschool age through high school. Lessons are private, one-on-one, and built around each student's individual pace and goals.

Violin

Elementary through advanced

From holding the bow to preparing for a UIL solo or all-region audition, violin lessons are tailored to each student. Suzuki and Essential Elements methods are both used, depending on the student's age and goals.

  • Suzuki Books 1 through advanced repertoire
  • Essential Elements method available
  • Ages 4 through high school
  • UIL, all-region & competition preparation
  • Orchestra audition & performance prep

Viola

Elementary through intermediate

Viola lessons follow the same patient, ear-first approach as violin — with attention to the unique demands of the alto clef and the larger instrument. Ideal for students drawn to a richer, deeper voice in the strings.

  • Beginner through intermediate level
  • Suzuki & Essential Elements methods
  • Alto clef reading from the start
  • School orchestra preparation
  • UIL solo & ensemble support

Piano

Elementary level

Piano lessons combine traditional method books with playful, age-appropriate repertoire — building reading, rhythm, finger independence, and musicality together. A wonderful first instrument for young children.

  • Beginner foundations
  • Ages 5 through elementary school
  • Note reading, theory & ear training
  • Performance opportunities each season
  • Strong second-instrument option for string players

Studio Philosophy

A teaching approach built on patience.

Every student learns differently — and every family deserves a teacher who notices.

i.

Listen First

The Suzuki method begins where music began — with the ear. Students learn to hear beautiful tone before being asked to produce it.

ii.

Build Slowly

Strong foundations come from unhurried, patient repetition. We don't skip steps — we celebrate small ones.

iii.

Grow Together

Younger students learn alongside their parents. Older students take ownership of practice and prepare for the auditions and goals ahead.
